WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WFLX) - The WFLX FOX 29 Student Athlete of the Week is Jacob Guzik. Guzik is a senior at Wellington High School who plays on the school’s baseball team.
“It’s an honor to be featured as the student athlete of the week,” he said.
Guzik has been playing baseball since he was about 8 years old. He said he loves everything about the game and he’s made a lot of great friends over the years.
“My senior season, my goal is to go out, win as many games as possible, compete for a state championship and just value the little time I have left with all my best friends that I’ve been playing with since I was very little,” he said.
Guzik said he puts his school work first before playing baseball and plans to play in college and attend Coast Guard school.

“What motivates me to stay disciplined is the goals I have for myself in the future. I do want to play in college so working hard scores that on the field and off the field,“ he said. “I also want to attend the United States Coast Guard Academy, or a coast guard type school, so I want to stay focused in the classroom to achieve those dreams.”
Guzik said his biggest influence and role model on his journey so far has been his mother.
“She’s always pushed me the best version of myself, and I truly have all the things in the world to give to her, because she’s made me who I am today,” he said.
Last season, Guzik said he was the recipient of the Wellington Way Award. He said he values leadership and hopes to pour back into the community and have a positive impact on those around him.
“I truly value leadership and I want to be a role model for a lot of the younger students here at Wellington High School, so it feels really good to be nominated,” he said.
