The holidays mean lots of gifts and packages, and the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach County wants to make sure you recycle correctly!
Cardboard and gift boxes can go in your yellow recycling bin. Gift bags, cards, and wrapping paper are also accepted, but only if they are 100% paper. Items with glitter, foil, ribbons, or rope handles should be thrown in the trash. When in doubt, it’s safer to toss it...
Live Christmas trees up to 8 feet long and under 50 lbs can be placed at the curb on your regular yard waste collection day. Larger trees should be cut in half, and all lights, ornaments, and tinsel must be removed.
Cereal boxes and other boxboard materials also belong in the yellow recycling bin.
If you have extra or oversized cardboard, residents in unincorporated areas can place it next to their yellow bin for pickup. Residents in one of the county’s 39 municipalities should check with their city for local rules. Cardboard can also be dropped off at any of the 250+ community cardboard dumpsters or at an SWA Home Chemical and Recycling Center.
