The Sunset Lounge has officially reopened in West Palm Beach’s Historic Northwest District! The iconic Lounge is hosting a new series of events to mark the reopening of the business. Soul in the City is now based at the restored venue, marking the start of regular programming!
The Sunset Lounge, once a major stop for African American musicians in the 1940s and 1950s, has been renovated into a two story, 20,000 square foot space with updated event areas, a restaurant, bar, and rooftop lounge. The West Palm Beach CRA led the multi year project, preserving key elements of the building while expanding it for current use.
The reopening event featured Boney James and brought residents and local leaders together to mark the milestone. The next Soul in the City event is set for Wednesday, December 17, with a performance by Valerie Tyson.
Community leaders said the return of the Sunset Lounge is an important step for the Historic Northwest District and a chance to restore a longtime gathering place!
