Matilda the Musical brings heart and mischief to the Lake Worth Playhouse

April 10th-April 26th, 2026

Megan sits down with Daniel Eilola from the Lake Worth Playhouse to chat about Matilda Matilda debuts at the Lake Worth Playhouse April 10th and run through April 26th.

If you’re looking for a story with a lot of heart and just the right amount of mischief, Matilda the Musical is heading to the Lake Worth Playhouse April 10th through the 26th, 2026.

The beloved tale—familiar to many as a favorite childhood book and movie—has been reimagined for the stage as a lively, music-filled production.

The beloved children’s classic story (that many people will remember from the book or the 1996 movie) has been reimagined for the stage as a lively musical production.

Daniel Eilola, artistic director at Lake Worth Playhouse, says the show captures everything audiences love about the film while adding the excitement of live performance.

Matilda was turned into a musical a few years ago, and it’s become a really popular one,” Eilola said. “It’s got a lot of great music in it, and it brings all the elements of the film to the stage.”

A big cast and a stage full of kids

This is a large local production featuring a cast of 25 performers, about 16 of them children.

That youth heavy cast brings a unique energy to rehearsals, but Eilola says it’s not the chaos people might expect.

“(the) Kids are much more focused than adults in a lot of cases,” he said.

The young performers rehearse nightly, with additional weekend sessions. Eilola credits the region’s strong performing arts community for the level of talent being showcased.

“In this area, we have a huge talent base of children,” he said, noting many come from local performing arts schools, while others are simply talented kids from the community. “There are some really talented singers and dancers that are youngsters in this. I’m not exaggerating.”

While Matilda is known for its humor and iconic characters, the story at its core resonates with audiences of all ages.

If you’ve never seen the film, Eilola says the show still has plenty to love, it’s about “a plucky kid” who stands up to authority and bands together with her classmates to push back against injustice.

“It’s a lot of fun,” he added. “Fans of the movie, please come check it out.”
